The first type of novel I write is a detective series set in Peterborough, featuring DI Barton as the main character, beginning with The Snow Killer. Barton is unlike the cliché unprofessional alcoholic detective; he is a family man who struggles to balance his personal life with the horrors of his job as he tracks down various killers. The series includes a strong team with characters you will become attached to, as well as intense scenes that will keep you on the edge of your seat with a fast-paced narrative to keep you engaged.
My other novels are inspired by my experiences working as a prison officer. HMP Peterborough is the only prison in the UK that holds both men and women, albeit in separate jails, but it provided me with the opportunity to work within both environments. The differences I observed were surprising, and it was eye-opening to see what these intimidating places were truly like. It was a challenging job that involved a steep learning curve.
